Star Trek: Discovery 3.5 Review: Ups And Downs From Die Trying

5. Georgiou And David Cronenberg (UP)

Star Trek Discovery David Cronenberg
CBS

Once those rubbish holograms have been shut down, the great scene between Georgiou and Cronenberg can begin. One of the main issues with Georgiou in season three is addressed up front here - why did she go with them? What is the point of her presence in the future? So far, she has been little more than set dressing on a ship that doesn't need her.

Her exchanges with Cronenberg (yes, the character has a name. No, it isn't better than David flipping Cronenberg) are sharp and to the point. He is able to shatter her illusions within moments. He has knowledge of the Terran Empire - or rather lack thereof, which shakes her to the core. He even subtly hints that her departure from her universe caused the fall of her people.

He also spots straight away that she came through time for a person, and not a reason. He also suggests that he knows of a gene difference between Terrans and Humans, one that leads Terrans to act on whatever impulse they feel - suggesting that for a gene difference, there is a cure.

It is a calm and quiet scene, though the ramifications could be far reaching if the above came to pass. When Burnham finds Georgiou later on, she is clearly somewhere else in her mind. Whether this is because of she has heard. or something that Cronenberg has physically done to her, remains to be seen.

But, finally, Georgiou seems to be on the path to having an actual plot in this season.
