Star Trek Discovery: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Far From Home'
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing.
After last week's Michael Burnham-centric season premiere, Star Trek: Discovery's third season crash lands into its second episode and catches us up with the show's namesake starship.
Essentially the same story as last week's "That Hope is You", "Far From Home" finds the crew of the downed USS Discovery pulling together to put the pieces back together and explore this new, uncharted era. Meanwhile, on the surface of Iceland... err "The Colony"... Saru, Tilly, and Emperor/Captain/Commander Georgiou find themselves in a western saloon-style standoff of with local bully, Zareh.
As the show frees itself from its pre-Star Trek: The Original Series setting, it's clearly taking the opportunity to mix and match tropes and references from Trek's past. We get a nice nod to one of the Star Trek franchise's founding inspirations, namely westerns, the return of a rarely-glimpsed but frequently referenced alien race, and even a deep cut reference to 1990s Star Trek lit.
Sadly, no sign of Grudge this week, but we'll get through it together... here is everything we caught in Star Trek: Discovery season three, episode two: "Far From Home".
13. Main Titles V.3.5
Like last week's season premiere, a couple of changes have been made to the standard Star Trek: Discovery opening titles.
Firstly, Rachel Ancheril, who plays Commander Nhan, is now listed in the credits as a regular... meaning the character will hopefully appear far less sporadically than she did in season two.
Secondly, the Star Trek: Discovery title card has changed... again.
While last week's opening titles showcased a new, softer font for the "Discovery" part of the show's name, now the "Star Trek" part has also been reworked, using the classic Star Trek: The Original Series font in the same style as Star Treks Picard, Lower Decks, and (the upcoming) Prodigy.
It's not clear why "That Hope is You" used a transitional form of the show's title card, but if you go back to rewatch the episode on CBS All Access or Netflix, you'll see the season premiere's opening titles have been updated to reflect the changed title card introduced this week in "Far From Home".
