Star Trek Discovery: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'That Hope Is You'

6. Future Future Tech

At The Mercantile, Michael is amazed to see citizens of the 32nd century casually using portable transporters. This technology may be new to Burnham and her 23rd-century roots, but it dates back to at least the 2380s as several people can be seen beaming in and out of the bar on Freecloud in Star Trek: Picard's "Stardust City Rag".

A portable transwarp transporter was also used by John Harrison in the Kelvin Timeline in Star Trek Into Darkness, but in that film, it was equipment that was basically a vacuum cleaner that you had to lug around.

Book's personal transporter apparently takes 30 seconds to recharge (making the chase sequence a little more interesting) and (conveniently) cannot be tracked underwater.

Other new tech includes pulse weapons worn on the arm which can instantly cause a person to explode, resulting in an unusually high body count in "That Hope Is You" and a nice visual easter egg when an exploding Andorian splatters blue blood onto the camera lens.
