Star Trek: Discovery Season 3.13 Review: Ups And Downs From That Hope Is You - Part 2

3. Gray, Adira And Culber

Star Trek Discovery Gray
CBS

This season, Discovery has gone further in how its depicted families again. We've already seen Michael and Spock, Michael and Sarek and of course, Michael and Gabrielle. However, the family that has touched hearts the most has been the unit of Stamets, Culber and Adira, and of course, Gray. The inclusion of Gray this week, in Vulcan form, succeeds in two things. First, he is able to interact more fully with those around him, which helps us the audience see him as a part of events. Second, it must go a little way to helping Culber believe Adira isn't entirely crazy!

The scene between the three of them is both incredibly touching and has a sense of catharsis to it. There is little doubt that when season 4 returns, we will see more of Gray, though in what form we don't know yet. It is clear that he is as real to Culber as he is to Adira. Although Adira and Gray are very much in love, they truly seem like children to Culber's father figure here.

The entire exchange is heartwarming and of course a little heartbreaking.
