Star Trek: Every Chief Engineer Ranked

6. Jett Reno

Jett Reno Star Trek Discovery
CBS

Discovered by the away team on the wreckage of the USS Hiawatha, Jett Reno comes aboard the Discovery and quickly establishes herself as the chief engineer on ship.

This is not entirely clear in the beginning though. Paul Stamets does outrank her, yet his role is not defined as Chief Engineer.

She is officially assigned to Discovery after her rescue and quickly settles into life on board ship. She is blunt and sarcastic, yet she is also a caring a warm person. She is quick to point out the obvious, such as the situation she sees Stamets and the reincarnated Hugh Culber in.

She fixes things - its what she does, be they automatic or organic. She goes to Culber and tells him she needs Stamets to work more productively and, for that to happen, she needs Culber to sort out the situation between them.

She is one of the crew members who elect to remain on board Discovery with Burnham as it travels to the future. She is also adamant that she is not asking permission either, as Burnham tries to convince them all to leave. She engages in the plan to route power through the time crystal obtained by Captain Pike, not losing her acerbic wit even as parts of the ship rain down around her.

A strong woman in troubled times, it remains to be seen how Reno will adapt to the future with the rest of the crew.
