Star Trek: EVERY Chief Of Security Ranked From WORST To BEST
1. Tuvok - USS Voyager
In all seriousness, is there anything that Tuvok can't do? Over the course of Voyager, he proves himself to be one of the most skilled and versatile security chiefs to ever grace the torpedo controls.
Investigator, tactical officer, undercover operative, fighter, mediator, interrogator, peacekeeper, mentor, commander, bodyguard, strategist...he even made a bow and arrow that one time. He's like an entire security suite, wrapped up in sassy Vulcan packaging. And even that has its uses. Tuvok perfected the art of using one-liners to break the tension.
To be fair, all of those attributes are built on decades of Starfleet service. And there's no doubt his experience played a part in turning him into a tactical wizard who can crunch through threat assessments like a computer; no detail goes unnoticed, and no assumption remains unquestioned.
While Vulcans might not be the first species that comes to mind when thinking about badass security officers, it's his control and cool logic that make him ideal for the job. That's not to say he can't wipe the deck with an intruder or make the phasers dance when required. He wouldn't even break a sweat.
Without the human ego in the way, he has nothing to prove. He can recommend force without overstepping into recklessness, and equally, he knows when to back down if Janeway decides on another option. The phrase 'calm under pressure' is an understatement when he's capable of making the hardest decision without so much as flinching.
But beneath all that, he really does care about the crew, and doing everything in his power to keep them safe is precisely how he shows it. The way Janeway openly admits how much she values his counsel is a testament to his support, loyalty and wisdom.
So yes, perhaps Worf was more iconic, Shaxs more explosive and Reed more pioneering. And maybe Odo turned true detective while La'An brought true grit. But Tuvok combined all of those things and more...and still had time to quip.
