Star Trek: Every Helmsman Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Travis Mayweather

Travis Mayweather was born in space and was a natural at piloting space-ships, he'd been doing it since he was a small child, after all. When he joined the USS Enterprise NX-01, Travis was easily the most well-travelled of the crew that Jonathan Archer chose to assemble and his experience served them pretty well. Travis relied on the words of Chuck Yeager to get him through his piloting training; 'I never let myself be afraid. I just focus on the dials and concentrate on flying.'

His family obligations on the aged transport ship ECS Horizon pulled him back to his old life and he considered giving up Starfleet for good. After an encounter with the piratical Nausicaans, he was confronted with the realisation that he had moved past the limitations that a Warp 1 engine could offer. From here on, he was bound to see the stars from behind the helm of a Starfleet vessel.

Travis served faithfully for the entire service length of the NX-01 and, while an excellent pilot whose skill could always be relied upon, never really got the recognition, attention or promotion that he deserved.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
