Star Trek: Every Helmsman Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Tom Paris

Star Trek Helsmen

Wry, witty and possessed of an ethical code that landed him in prison, Tom Paris has quite the reputation at the helm. He was an ace pilot at the academy. He was recruited by Chakotay to fly for the Maquis. He manned the helm of the USS Voyager when it was stranded in the Delta Quadrant, helped design and build the Delta Flyer and then finally, turned to write holo-novels. Well, they can't all be flying based.

Tom's past landed him kicked out of the academy, then in prison, then even after his redemption on Voyager, he was still demoted from lieutenant to ensign when he went against orders to go deep diving in an ocean that looks like a planet. Tom's skill at the helm, however, wove Voyager through thick and thin. He flew them through Kazon territory, Borg space and away from Hirogen ambushes, eventually re-earning the rank of lieutenant.

Tom's other passions were as writer, a 20th Century enthusiast and a keen Captain Proton fan.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
