Star Trek: Every Helmsman Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Valeris

Star Trek Helsmen
CBS

Lieutenant Valeris was assigned to the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) in order to serve with her mentor, Captain Spock, when the ship was engaged in a diplomatic mission to Klingon space. During the events that followed the rendezvous with the Klingon flagship, Chancellor Gorkon was murdered by two assailants wearing Starfleet space-suits and carrying Starfleet phasers.

Valeris would go on to assist Spock and Uhura in doing what they could to prove that Captain James Kirk and Dr. Leonard McCoy were not the men responsible, but all of this was a ruse. Eventually it was revealed that her efforts to help them were a cunning ruse, for Valeris was partially responsible for the assassination itself.

She supplied the Shakespeare-quoting Klingon Colonel Chang with entries from Kirk's log, speaking of how he held the Klingons responsible for the death of his son. Further than this, she murdered the two hapless Yeomen who actually undertook the assassination. She was flushed out by Kirk and Spock, who tricked her into revealing herself. She was forced to Mind-Meld with Spock (does that constitute torture?) and confess to her part in the conspiracy.

Nevertheless, despite her treasonous actions, she was a damn fine helmsman, top of her class at Starfleet Academy.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
