Star Trek Picard: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Et In Arcadia Ego, Part 2'
13. Starship Mine
Picard and Jurati make it to the La Sirena where Jean-Luc naturally slips into his role as captain and orders up a status report.
They need to get the Sirena flying before the "golden children call up the Über-synths" and Picard (as he does) waxes philosophical about them. On one hand, he says, they are an advanced race, but on the other they're children raised by two old hermits (Soong and Maddox). Picard says the synths need to learn that "to be alive is a responsibility as well as a right" and this is a direct callback to Picard's state during the very first episode, "Remembrance". In that episode Picard said he wasn't really living, he was just "waiting to die"... he had forgotten that living was a responsibility.
Anyway he hops in the captain's chair and punches up the holographic interface he admitted he didn't know how to use in "Broken Pieces". Except he has learned from watching Rios and the Star Trek: The Next Generation theme plays as the La Sirena takes flight.
Agnes says Picard's famous catchphrase "make it so" and it's the first time they've said it in Star Trek: Picard, but hey they said the thing.
