Star Trek: Picard Finale Review - 3 Ups And 5 Downs From Et In Arcadia Ego (Part 2)

4. So No Twist, Then?

Lore, Q, The Enterprise, V'Ger, Worf, Geordi, The Origin Of The Borg, Seven Becoming Their New Queen, Starfleet Being The Real Bad Guys, Data Coming Back From The Dead, you name it, someone's suggested it as the big twist that was going to make the Picard season finale an absolutely seminal moment in Trek history.

In the end, though, there was absolutely nothing in the way of a jaw-dropper in our final 54 minutes. Yes, the synth attack on Mars was really orchestrated by The Romulans (as Raffi literally spelled out in episode 3), and yes there was some alien superpredator species lurking around out there (as Oh showed us in episode 8), but it all just sort of played out as background noise to the story of... *checks notes*... Picard getting a headache.

A twist purely for the sake of a twist would have been worse, but the show has put in genuine effort with its mysterious prophecies and shadowy conspiracies to give you the impression that nothing was as it really seemed. In the end though, it was, disappointingly.
