Star Trek: Ranking The Captains Worst To Best
7. Captain Jonathan Archer
Ship: Enterprise
Though it's tempting, you shouldn't judge Jonathan Archer either for the perceived weakness of the show he starred in or of it's almost unlistenable soundtrack. But even judged on his merits as a captain in his own right, he comes up a little short compared to the competition.
He's way more laid-back than the other Captains here and feels a little more like the head of a family, rather than a military leader. For some, that will absolutely be a weakness, but the lack of a cut-throat edge does serve Archer well in some circumstances. He's probably more empathetic, more personally close to his crew, but he also has more of an intrepid twinkle of exploration in his eye.
It's just a shame that he's held back on his mission of discovery by his distrust of Vulcans. He grows with that and it changes, but it's a strange trait for someone whose job defines he should act in a completely opposite sot of way.
