Star Trek: Ranking The Series Intros Worst To Best

4. #4: The Next Generation

The score is irresistible, case closed.

It starts with a subtle atmosphere as celestial bodies flash on the screen. Various elements start filling the void and swell as Patrick Stewart delivers an updated monologue from The Original Series. Then as Stewart finishes, the Enterprise-D leaps to warp, and the score really takes off.

In all fairness, who hasn’t heard this theme and started nodding along at least just a little? Maybe even air-conducted the string section? No one would blame them for being swept up in the most dramatic Star Trek score yet.

But as great as it is, this intro comes in at #4 for what it’s lacking. For although the Enterprise whooshes toward the screen a couple of times, really all there is on the screen for quite a while are cast names and a dimly star-sprinkled black background. The Enterprise appears once more to again leap to warp… And that’s it.

A solid intro, all in all. The monologue and music make it unforgettable. But visually, it’s not much of an appetizer.
