Star Trek Voyager Cast: Where Are They Now?

1. Kate Mulgrew

Captain Janeway
Paramount

As Star Trek's first leading woman (as opposed to first female captain, shout out to Madge Sinclair!), Kate Mulgrew was tasked with something of an uphill climb when Voyager debuted in 1994. Not only was she a relatively late addition to the cast, replacing Genevieve Bujold after the latter had suddenly quit the show, but there was a lot of indecision about her character from the off.

Janeway's Hair. This could have an entry all to itself - the producers were micro-managing every aspect of the show's first year, not least because it was the flagship show for the new UPN network. However, after several hairstyles and seven seasons, Mulgrew cemented her role in Trek history as one of the best Captains of the lot.

Since the show wrapped in 2001, she has kept herself very busy. She is a prolific stage actress, with credits ranging from the '70s to present day. She has acted in many television series, leading several and most recently starring as Galina 'Red' Reznikov in Netflix's Orange Is The New Black, for which she has been nominated for an OFTA Television Award Nomination, a Critic's Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress and an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

She was interviewed by William Shatner as part of his 'Captains' series, explaining in great detail the impact that Star Trek has had on her life. She has written a memoir titled Born With Teeth and continues to write, act and support theatre to this day.
