Some people dislike Urgo. These people are wrong.

Season 3 edges out over Season 4 with some truly excellent episodes. 'Foothold' and 'Pretense' both appear to be standalone episodes that help layer further episodes with elements about the shimmer-devices and the Tolan respectively, while 'Foothold' also allows for the normally antagonistic Colonel Harry Maybourne to take on a more heroic role.

'Shades of Grey' and 'A Hundred Days' are both showcases for Richard Dean Anderson at his best in this series, hitting the stride that made him such a reliable household name. 'Maternal Instinct' shows us our very first Ascended Ancient without us even knowing what one of them was at the time and the season finale 'Nemesis' sees the introduction of the Replicators, a threat that would return again and again to the franchise.

We also get to delve further into Goa'uld politics in this season with the episode 'Fair Game', where several System Lords come to visit Earth for tea, biscuits and polite conversation about planetary ownership. One of them, Lord Yu, becomes a frequent face.
