Stargirl Season 1 Premiere Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs
2. A Solid Story
The most refreshing thing about only having the pilot to enjoy this week is the fact that you can see early on that the show isn't just an endless highlight reel of theatrics and supervillains, there's a strong story at its heart.
As this is very much Courtney's origin story, it prioritises her character journey over the heroics, giving us a glimpse into her past and alluding to what ultimately drives her. That also makes way for an endearing familial setting with a ton of rich internal conflict just waiting to be explored.
On the other end of things, we have Luke Wilson's Pat Dugan - Starman's former sidekick who became the protector of the Cosmic Staff and vowed to find his friend's successor, never realising that it would be his stepdaughter.
We've already discussed how Stargirl still has a lot to of ground to cover in the theatrical department, but with solid foundations like these, it should have no problem getting there in the end.
