The Big Bang Theory: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season 1
2. Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz
While the first few seasons of The Big Bang Theory were decent, the show really finds its groove around season three, when the extended cast allowed for far more engaging storytelling. One of its most important additions was Bernadette, a microbiologist who immediately felt as though she’d been part of the cast from the off.
Bernadette is introduced as a love interest for Howard, with the two finding that they have little in common other than difficult mothers, but from there, a relationship blossoms. Another character who could easily have become one-note, much of Bernadette’s humour comes from the frenzied, high pitched delivery of Melissa Raunch, but the actress is able to keep the character grounded and balanced.
She’s the group mom - even able to send Sheldon to bed when he’s acting out - but also feels the most like a real person, with none of the ineptitude of most of the men or the cartoonish airheadedness of Penny in the latter seasons.
