The Big Bang Theory: 10 Things You Completely Missed From Season One

6. Raj's Inability To Talk Around Women

The Big Bang Theory
CBS

The Big Bang Theory has a lot of characters who struggled with communicating to the opposite sex. But Rajesh Koothrappali takes it to a whole new level. For the first six seasons, Raj becomes so nervous in the presence of women, he finds himself unable to talk. Even if Penny doesn't speak directly to Raj, he cannot speak outwardly unless he is drunk or drugged. He can talk to women if he thinks he's consuming alcohol but will revert to a mute state when he acknowledges this fact.

But there was one moment when the show forgot about Raj's self-imposed condition. In the seventh episode, Sheldon prepares to play Halo with the gang but realises his team is one person short. When Leonard says the only the way they can play as a foursome is if they cut Raj in half, Raj speaks... while Penny is in the same room!

Some viewers suggest this isn't a slip up since Raj was inebriated when he spoke. However, he reverts to his mute nature immediately after, proving this moment was a flub.
