The Falcon And The Winter Soldier: Every Episode Ranked
1. Truth
Commencing with a brutal fight over the fate of Steve’s bloodstained legacy, Truth quickly established itself as a standout episode, full of brilliant character moments. Despite Walker's dreadful mistakes, it succeeded in keeping him somewhat sympathetic, as he lost his position as Captain America and lied to Lemar’s parents about their son’s death.
In contrast, it was truly heart-warming to watch Sam and Sarah save their boat with the aid of their community, and became even more so when Bucky joined them. Truth marked the beginning of a genuine friendship between the two heroes, as Bucky apologised for failing to understand what being given the shield would mean to Sam as a Black man, and Sam helped Bucky in his quest to make amends and find peace. The episode still maintained their fun dynamic, with Sam reacting hilariously to Bucky flirting with Sarah.
Truth also represented Sam making a choice regarding the shield and his future. Having abandoned his broken wings, Sam’s journey began with another meeting with Isaiah Bradley, which shed further light on how Isaiah’s heroism had been repaid with horrendous treatment and erasure from history due to systemic racism. The scene was sensitively performed by Mackie and Lumbly, and Isaiah’s disillusionment with the shield and his country was an undeniably valid viewpoint.
Ultimately, Sam chose to preserve history and honour Isaiah’s legacy by taking up the shield after a moving conversation with Sarah, which culminated in a triumphant training montage.
