8. Time Travel

The Flash hinted at time travel throughout the season, with regular post-credit stings of Harrison Wells showing a newspaper clipping from 2024, leading fans to speculate whether he was from the future, and if time travel would have a bigger part to play in the first season. Both cases turned out to be correct, and was finally explored in episode 15 Out of Time. Barry uses his speed to create a barrier against the tsunami set to crash down on Central City, but runs so fast that he actually ends up going back in time a day. It then featured as a major part of the season finale, as Barry travels back to the night his mother dies with a chance to save her, and also return Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne to the future. It approached Doctor Who levels of €˜timey-wimey€™ and, just like its titular hero, shows no signs of slowing down on that front in Season 2, with more time travel confirmed to be playing a part. Quite what that will involve now, with Barry having rejected the chance to save his mother and Thawne disintegrating, isn€™t clear, but it will likely tie-in with€
