6. Are Barry And Iris Moving Towards A Relationship?
Hoping for a relationship on a CW show is a dicey proposition. The network definitely has a different target audience than, say, Netflix, and it doesn’t take much more than a central love story to quickly take over the whole show. If anything, Arrow fans will tell you that the last thing The Flash should do is set Barry up with a love interest again.
Nevertheless, given Iris’s recent dip back into the dating pool, and Barry’s encounter with her in Earth-2, they’re certainly laying the groundwork for a Barry-Iris pairing. They’ve been happily married in the comics and it’s not hard to argue that the show is also better when their stories are directly intertwined.
The issue almost becomes less about whether viewers should cheer on this pairing, or simply accept that it’s bound to happen sooner or later. The Flash is a generally upbeat show and Barry Allen is sure to get another chance at love. Doing so with Iris makes a lot of sense for him as a character, and all that remains to be seen is if the events from the end of this year will push them together, or towards other people.
