The Flash: 10 Things It Must Do To Finish The Season Right
5. Have Barry Continue To Improve Himself
One of the great aspects of The Flash as a hero is that hes constantly pushing himself to get better. On a practical level, it lends credibility to the story. It helps us understand how he could go from being beaten by Zoom to actually challenging him later on, and provides him with some visually arresting new abilities along the way. On a character level, it helps show Barrys emotional growth, as he's constantly changing, a trait that makes him a more engrossing hero. As his final showdown with Zoom is approaching, all of that work is going to be put to the test. Win or lose, Barry needs to keep working at himself, through this season and beyond. Specifically, it would be great if he could use his speed a little more intelligently. Obviously the show would have little conflict if he truly just slowed down time and stopped the bad guys. Hence we have Barry often showing up to scenes and pausing at normal speed for no reason or failing to chase after bad guys who have barely gotten away. These are just minor criticisms, but an overall more competent use of his powers would go a long way to selling his improvements as a crime fighter.
