The Flash Season 2: 11 Big Questions We're Asking After 'Invincible'

6. Why Is Zoom Obsessed With Barry?

Zoom once again brings up the notion of him and Barry being similar this week. In fact, he doesn't just mention it, he goes as far as killing Barry's father in a desperate attempt to prove it.

At first Zoom's interest in Barry was to steal his speed, but despite achieving that he seems more obsessed with him than ever before. It's one thing to have a villain who is a dark mirror of the hero, and even have them point it out ("you're one bad day away from being me") but in this case it's not yet clear just why Hunter Zolomon is so consumed by the idea of him and Barry being the same. Is it a way of dealing with what he suffered as a child? A mix of anger, sadness, and jealousy wanting him to force Barry to go through the same? Or does it all tie into his larger plan?

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
