The Flash Season 3: 10 Things You Might've Missed In 'Flashpoint'

9. "I Was Thinking... Flashpoint"

The Flash Eobard Thawne Reverse-Flash
The CW

In that same scene, Reverse-Flash taunts Barry about the completely different timeline he has unwittingly created. Mockingly, he dubs this brave new world "Flashpoint."

This scenario - Reverse-Flash mocking Barry and coming up with the term Flashpoint - strongly echoes the role Thawne plays in the original comic book version of Flashpoint (and its subsequent animated movie adaptation The Flashpoint Paradox).

The villain also jokes that it’s like a “Reverse Wonderful Life.” Apart from proving that this man is too fond of the word reverse, it also namechecks a big influence on this episode. In fact, it's probably more of an inspiration than the comic.

If you have somehow never heard of the movie, 1946’s It’s A Wonderful Life also sees a man change the world for what he initially believes is the better but later realises has resulted in some unforeseen tragic consequences. Sounds familiar, no?
