8. The Rival's Rival
Another season of The Flash, another evil speedster kicking up a fuss in Central City.
Though The Rival wasn’t really anything we hadn’t seen before – he sees himself as The Flash’s enemy like Reverse-Flash and he has the black suit of Zoom – his inclusion here was a fun nod to the version of the character from the comics.
In the comics, The Rival is Edward Clariss, Jay Garrick’s nemesis on his Earth and the inventor of Velocity-9. On the TV show, these two big claims to fame were incorporated into Hunter Zolomon’s character in his stead last season.
In Flashpoint, the character is likewise called Edward Clariss but is here the enemy of Wally West’s version of The Flash. A very different character, then, but at least the show kept the core fact that he is the rival of a non-Barry incarnation of the hero in tact.
We will no doubt see more of him in the future, seeing as the elusive Doctor Alchemy seems to have a use for him.
