The Flash Season 5: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'Seeing Red'
1. Killer Frost Steals The Show
When Cicada’s dagger once again successfully managed to negate all of Team Flash’s powers in the show’s 100th episode, it all looked pretty dire for the colourful team of superheroes. However, they received a surprising assist from Caitlin Snow’s oppressed alter-ego, Killer Frost.
It wasn’t surprising that Frost helped them (she’s good like that now), it was surprising that she was able to manifest at all. However, now that we’ve all learned that she’s technically not a metahuman, it soon became clear that she’s immune to the power-negating effects of Cicada’s dagger – and this little bombshell made the ice queen Team Flash’s secret weapon and set the stage for a showdown between her and the “cricket freak”. Well, in ‘Seeing Red’, we finally got that showdown.
In the past, Frost has been underutilised, overlooked and defeated far too easily. But here, there was none of that in sight. Standing up to Cicada, she was powerful, intimidating and almost unstoppable, as she out-matched him, out-fought him and even out-daggered him (with her own ice dagger!) at every single turn and, in doing so, she learned that her ice blasts can negate the effects of his dagger on her metahuman friends.
The writers were well aware of the fact that we were eagerly anticipating this battle and, as a result, they teased us the whole time, making us wait until the episode’s final act. Not only was the result worth the wait, it highlighted just how much of a gem Frost is and served as a reminder that she should be showcased more often.
Now, for the negative...
