The Flash Season 5: 6 Major Questions After The Midseason Premiere
1. What Happens To Eobard When His Time Runs Out?
When Nora decided that, despite his heinous actions in the past, she was going to allow Eobard to earn her trust, the Reverse-Flash made a rather troubling revelation. The imprisoned villain stalked his way towards her and announced that he was running out of time. As he did so, he looked up at a clock that was situated outside of his cell - and this clock was counting down.
Of course, this has left us all wondering what will happen when the countdown expires. One possible explanation is that Thawne could be on Death Row. After all, he is imprisoned in Iron Heights and has most likely been convicted of a serious crime (we know that he's killed people in the past), so it wouldn't be that "out there" for the future law system to remind a prisoner as cold-blooded as the Reverse-Flash just how little time he has left.
Another explanation might be that he's simply dying. Being a veteran speedster, all that timeline-manipulating and body-jumping may have finally caught up with him and, being the twisted technical genius that he is, perhaps he wanted to remain fully-aware of just how much longer he had left.
Whatever the countdown means, the Reverse-Flash currently only has 51 minutes left (which suggests that Nora always travels to the exact same point in time when she visits him as it would be pointless to travel to any time following the countdown), so we can't help but wonder if his plan with Nora will change all of this. If not, then will this finally mark the end for the man who has constantly evaded death? Time will tell.
