The Flash Season 5: 6 Problems It Must Fix

2. Reliance On Complex Plots

There is no denying that the birth of metahumans and gateways to parallel dimensions need scientific explanations in order to be considered credible, but somewhere along the line, The Flash started sewing these complexities into the main storylines - and the result proved to be rather confusing.

Though time-travel always had a presence on the show, the concept itself was the sole foundation for Season 3. This ultimately led to a convoluted storyline that was built upon a philosophy that went against all of the time-travel logic we had been taught up to that point. It was all quite mind-boggling and hindered what could have been an enticing story.

Season 4 attempted to rectify this problem by steering clear of speedsters and time-travel altogether, yet ultimately fell into a similar trap thanks to Big Bad Clifford DeVoe's larger-than-life plans. It had something to do with the "bus metas" and the Enlightenment, but none of us were feeling enlightened after that head-scratcher.

The confusing plotlines of The Flash's latter two seasons made them rather hard to enjoy. Thus, if the showrunners really want Season 5 to revive the show, it's imperative that the audience is actually able to keep up with what's happening. While nothing needs to be erased entirely, it would certainly help if the convoluted stuff was reduced to the absolute minimum going forward.
