The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 Review: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'Women's Work'
5. The Return Of The Letters
The letters that June received from fellow oppressed handmaids have been on quite a journey. First, June hid them behind her bathtub. Then, when she was apprehended by the authorities, she told Rita where to find them. Upon returning to the Waterford household at the beginning of Season 2, Rita gave June back the letters. And finally when Aunt Lydia and Serena left June with no other choice than to assume her role of Offred, June burnt some of the letters. Thankfully Nick intervened and saved the rest, but we've not seen head nor tail of them since
The latest episode changes that, and we see the letters back on our screens - but the situation in which we find them is an odd one.
Nick's teenage wife, Eden, discovers them while sorting through her husband's things. Nick is less than pleased when he realises this, but she promises him she did not read them. As her discovery of the letters happened off-screen, it's hard to know if Eden is telling the truth or not.
Either way, it doesn't change the fact that the letters are finally back on our screens, so this does raise the question as to whether or not Mayday will return to give June advice on what to do with the messages.
