The Haunting Of Hill House: 7 Most Chilling Fan Theories

6. The Dudleys Kidnapped Abigail

The Dudleys have worked at Hill House for a long time and have always been aware of what the House is. After their first baby girl died, they still heard her cries throughout the House.

The show explores the different ways grief affects people, so it’s possible that the Dudleys kidnapped Abigail so they could start again. This makes sense because the Dudleys were strange right from the start, as this fan theory explains.

Whilst the Crain family all look like they’re related (excellent casting), Abigail doesn’t look anything like the Dudleys. Plus they never let her out outside of the house. This could be because they don’t want to lose another child and also know the horrors of Hill House, but it could be because they didn’t want anyone to recognise Abigail as a missing child.

The Dudleys also didn’t seem overly upset when they found out that Olivia had murdered Abigail, which was weird but is probably due to the fact they know they can still see her at the House. However, it's odd when Mr Dudley tells Hugh to not call the police. Surely they would’ve wanted their daughter’s body buried properly, although it might have something to do with them not wanting to cause trouble for the Crain family.

The Dudleys told Hugh to make sure nothing happens to the house, because “It’s full of precious, precious things, and they don’t all belong to you.” It's probably better for everyone if everything remains, regardless of whether Abigail was kidnapped or not.
