There’s a lot of discussion regarding the death of Nell’s husband Arthur. Was it just an aneurysm after all, or was he frightened to death after seeing the Bent Neck Lady? As it was revealed that Nell is the Bent Neck Lady, we can look at it differently.

When Nell died, the appearances of the Bent Neck Lady can be taken as Nell revisiting the most defining moments of her life, which is why she appeared when Arthur passed away. But what if there’s more to this?

One fan theory explains that Nell stopped seeing the Bent Neck Lady as an adult when she met Arthur because he was healing her. They were happy together which was helping her to overcome the memories of her traumatic childhood. Whilst this was true, Nell was saved from her horrific fate of committing suicide (or being murdered via ghost) and becoming the Bent Neck Lady.

But once Arthur died, completely by accident, the Bent Neck Lady comes back again and Nell can no longer escape her own fate. Perhaps she was never meant to escape and Arthur’s death was destined, too.
