The Last Of Us HBO Series CONFIRMED

Get excited people, because it's finally coming!

The Last of Us made one hell of a splash back in 2013, with word of its incredible characterization, world-building and narrative spreading across pop culture quicker than the Cordyceps fungus that produced such horrific abominations as Clickers, Runners, and David (you'll see).

Selling over one million copies in the first week, it was nominated for almost 80 awards, won five for Game of the Year, and is widely considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time.

Now, it looks like some of that post-apocalyptic goodness is headed to our TV screens, and on HBO, no less. That in and of itself should be enough to get people in a frenzy (a good frenzy, not a The Last of Us frenzy), but if that's not doing it for you, perhaps the talent behind it might.

The series is set to be produced by Craig Mazin, creator of HBO's critically acclaimed miniseries, Chernobyl (which was, at the time of its release, the highest-rated TV show of all time on IMDb). Not only that, but Mazin is teaming up with Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director behind The Last of Us, The Last of Us 2, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

This is set to be the first television series by PlayStation Productions, which is set to co-produce the project alongside Sony Television Entertainment.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Mazin said:

"Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I'm so honored to do it in partnership with Neil."

Druckmann noted that the series wasn't originally going to be a series, at all. Instead, he envisioned a feature film adaptation, but eventually decided against it. Thankfully, he had a change of heart, and has now decided to move forward with the project on television. There's no word yet on whether it'll be a full-length series, or a miniseries (like Watchmen).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will cover the events of the first game, and possibly touch on some things from the upcoming sequel. That means that we WILL be getting Joel and Ellie in live action.

So, with that information, who would you like to see take on the roles?
