The Last Of Us Season 2: Episode 1 (Future Days) 7 Ups & 3 Downs
5. Up - Different Character Dynamics
With new characters comes the opportunity to see different people interacting together. The most obvious of these was Ellie and Dina. Of course, she had friends in the likes of Sam (Keivonn Woodard) and Riley (Storm Reid) in season one, but this is the first time since then that Ellie has really opened herself up in a relationship that will not only last, but grow.
The same can be said about her dynamic with Jesse, and completing this particular triangle, Jesse's relationship with Dina. The latter is also close with Joel, and is someone who he admitted acts more like a daughter to him than Ellie.
Season two has also immediately given more time to seeing Ellie interact with Tommy, as the two of them went out shooting together. Since she is basically a smaller version of Joel, there was no doubt that this was going to be fun to watch.
Arguably, the most surprising of these new dynamics was seeing Joel as the fun uncle to Tommy and Maria's son, Benjamin (Ezra Akbonkhese). Yes, he came more and more out of his shell with Ellie since they were thrown together by Marlene, but there was something about seeing Joel play with his five-year-old nephew that was heartwarming on a whole new level.
