The Last Of Us Season 2: Episode 3 (The Path) 4 Ups & 4 Downs
5. Down - Another Slow Burn
So, Abby's story was taken nowhere in this episode as she didn't appear on the screen once. Yes, there was a little more information given about the WLF, but not enough to further the story as much as it needed to be.
Arguably, Ellie's story wasn't either. A big chunk of the episode was based around waiting to see if she was allowed to leave Jackson in pursuit of Abby, only for her to defy the decision anyway, which felt like a waste of time. There were certainly positives to come out of this (more on that later), but it may have been better to send her packing much earlier in the episode.
The next outing will be the fourth in the second season, and will take the story past the halfway mark. That has come around incredibly quickly, and doesn't really leave much room for the story to take more time developing than it needs to.
To be clear, the even number of Ups and Downs this week may be slightly misleading, as this was not a bad episode by any stretch. Had season two been able to boast nine episodes as the first did, there would have been time for another slow burner like this. However, with just four episodes left, the burn on this one was perhaps a little too slow.
