Sometimes the little things make a big difference, and the opening credits of episode three are a prime example of that.

Naturally, the heaviest theme of this chapter in the story was the fact that Joel was killed. Tommy was seen cleaning his corpse, Ellie was forced to talk her feelings through with Gail (Catherine O'Hara) before she was allowed to leave the hospital, and the town came together to discuss what should be done.

One of the smaller, more subtle details to drive home that the show's main character was truly gone was in the opening credits. Not only did Pedro Pascal's name not appear next to Bella Ramsey's, but at the end, Ellie's silhouette was alone rather than having Joel's next to her.

This episode was to hold the audience's hand and guide them into a world without Joel, and it did so brilliantly, helped by such a small but crucial detail.
