The Last Of Us Season 2: Episode 3 (The Path) 4 Ups & 4 Downs

6. Down - The Absence Of Abby

Though Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) was featured heavily in the promotional material leading up to season two, she barely featured in that first episode. Just one scene at the beginning and one at the end from Abby book-ended the opening chapter of the story, and that made sense at the time.

However, a lot has happened since then. Audiences learned a lot more about her and her group, and she succeeded in killing Joel in the most brutal way she could. So, while keeping her largely off-screen worked for episode one, 'Future Days', it doesn't work so well in 'The Path'.

Abby is a huge part of this story already, and is currently the chief antagonist of the entire season. Understandably, much of the episode's focus was on Ellie and Tommy, and their reaction to what happened to Joel, but Abby's story needed to be furthered as well.

Danny Ramirez saw a brief couple of minutes on screen as Manny, and thankfully so, since he is a bona fide movie star and a great addition to the cast, but that representation of Abby's group simply wasn't enough. It's a point that will be furthered in the next entry, but there just isn't time to keep such a big player off the screen for an entire episode.
