The veteran filmmaker didn't seem the most obvious pick of the bunch when he was announced to be taking charge of not just one but two episodes of the first season of the series, having mostly cut his teeth in coming-of-age fare across his big-screen career to date.

But the fact that he was briefly attached to the big-screen adaptation of The Flash should have been a clear indicator that he would take to the Star Wars world like a duck to water and so it proved, with his work behind the camera on Chapters 2 and 6 of The Mandalorian among series' best.

Naturally, it's something to be celebrated then that he is one of the returning faces Favreau has ensured stays aboard The Mandalorian for its sophomore run - and with any luck, there may be a second appearance for his New Republic pilot Jib Dodger too.
