The Simpsons: 10 Best Characters Voiced By Harry Shearer

7. Reverend Lovejoy

The Simpsons Kent Brockman
Fox

Making his first appearance in the eighth episode of The Simpsons "The Telltale Head", Reverend Lovejoy frequently pops up when the characters begrudgingly make their weekly Sunday trip to The First Church of Springfield.

Lovejoy frequently subverts the expectations for what the audience might expect of a clergyman, engaging in gossip and in one memorable episode, even admitting that he doesn't own his own bible, instead he checks one out of the library every week!

Shearer's droll and monotonous tones are the perfect fit for this character, and make for the ideal foil to Ned Flanders’ unwavering godliness and upbeat attitude.

With a penchant for model trains and sarcasm, Lovejoy's regurgitations of the drearier parts of the good book have ensured he has remained a fan favourite for more than 30 years.
