3. Frank Grimes
Frank Grimes makes his first appearance in the 1997 episode 'Homer's Enemy' and also pops up again in a variety of other episodes, such as "The Seemingly Never-Ending Story" (his name is on a tombstone). Grimes joins the Nuclear Power Plant having worked his way up from college (he has a nuclear physics degree) but is portrayed as a hard grafter who constantly gets put down by life (he lives "above a bowling alley... and below another bowling alley"). He doesn't take kindly to Homer when he sees him goofing around, and is alarmed by his incompetence. He is disgusted when he is invited round for dinner and sees that Homer lives in a "palace", and is stunned to find he is the only one who can see his flaws. "Grimey" eventually snaps and shouts "look at me! I'm Homer Simpson! What's this? 'Extremely high voltage.' Well, I don't need safety gloves, 'cause I'm Homer Simp--" He touches the cables before he can finish his sentence and is fried to death. At his funeral Homer falls asleep and tells Marge to "change the channel", prompting laughter from the mourners as Grimes is laid to rest.
