The Simpsons: 10 Best Episodes From Season 30 Onwards
6. Baby You Can’t Drive My Car
Season 30, Episode 5
The episode opens with a well-tread scene of Homer’s laziness and gluttony causing wide-spread destruction. He wreaks havoc on the road driving while eating nuggets, crashing into Mr. Burns’ office, and being fired…again.
While indulging in his new passion, watching Korean soap operas, he learns of Car Go, a new company seeking “highly passive humans” to road test their fleet of self-driving cars. Homer aces the interview with his inaction. His bad driving record and having previously driven over himself are pluses to the company. It’s always enjoyable to see Homer succeed because of the character we have grown to love, rather than in spite of it.
However, the episode turns into one of the best Homer and
Marge stories in recent memory. When Marge and Homer teach the company’s tech
nerds to enjoy the games room with foosball, Go Car employ the two as a team to
improve company morale. The couple thrive, however, when the company’s shady
side is revealed, Marge is so delighted that Homer must (temporarily) be the
relationship’s moral core. The episode’s satirical look at digital privacy is a
success.
