The Simpsons: 10 Best Parody Episodes
9. Marge On The Lam
Movie Parody: Thelma and Louise (1991)
From one Marge in a relationship crisis episode to another.
Marge on the Lam focused on Ruth Powers - the straight talking single mother who was previously introduced in the season four episode, "New Kid on the Block". After Homer cancels his plans with Marge (due to a vending machine-related mishap), she decides to take out Ruth with her instead.
What should just be a leisurely evening at the ballet turns into a wild evening of reminiscing, drinking, crime and escaping from the cops.
The episode largely parallels the film Thelma and Louise as the two women are on a continuous run from the law (granted, their crimes aren't as extreme as the ones of the original movie), and they develop a real friendship after sharing their personal feelings with each other throughout the evening.
The episode also ends with the classic signature shot of a car driving over the canyon, but not with the characters you might except. It's actually Homer and Chief Wiggum who end up driving over the canyon. Luckily, they are saved by a landfill and Marge ends up being slightly more badass than she ever was before due to the damage she did to some antique cans.
