6. Bart Of Darkness

Movie parody: Rear Window (1954)

Season six kicked off with Bart and Lisa living out completely different summer breaks to what they were expecting - whilst Lisa is experiencing a new sense of popularity with her school mates because of the family pool, Bart is cooped up indoors and is left to his own devices (and a telescope) to keep himself entertained.

When spying on the neighbours, Bart hears a woman's scream followed by Ned Flanders yelling "What have I done? I've killed her!", seemingly referring to his wife Maude.

From then on, the episode largely becomes a parody of Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller Rear Window, with the same amount of suspense and a lot of added humour.

Perhaps the only issue with Bart of Darkness is that the parody itself only takes place in the final act and could have easily been extended to a full episode. Still, the writers absolutely nailed the spoof, including the funny impression of James Stewart.
