3. Lady Gaga
In a recent list of the Simpsons’ worst guest stars ever, Gaga only ended up grabbing bronze. However, the special appearance is so notorious that it’s one of the biggest scandals to hit the show.
Guests have been bad before - indeed, a couple have been worse - but no one had been this hyped, had this much spotlight put on them, and still been this bad.
There were a couple of decent jokes (Homer cooking her meat dress is chuckle worthy), and the wardrobe changes throughout fit her character, but there’s a lot more that’s wide of the mark too.
It’s not just the jokes which made Lisa Goes Gaga so infamous though. The Simpsons not being as funny as it used to be is hardly major news. It’s the fact they give her so much screentime it feels much more like a long, animated, yellow advert for Gaga than it does an episode of one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
The depiction of her as a Christlike figure, saving young girls from their anxiety felt totally off with The Simpsons regular satirisation of sitcom tropes, and left everyone waiting for a punchline which never came.
