2. Kill The Alligator And Run

If there’s a controversial entry on this list, this is likely it. “Kill the Alligator and Run” was heavily derided in its day as one of the worst episodes in the history of the show. However, in retrospect, it’s no more or less silly than what they were doing at the time. And what they were doing was quite hilarious.

After taking a quiz which predicts an early death for him, Homer becomes a paranoid insomniac. To treat his condition, the family takes him to Florida for rest and relaxaton, but uh-oh, it’s spring break! Snapped from his insanity, Homer gets into drunken antics with guest voices Kid Rock and the late Joe C. After numerous scrapes with the law that include the death of a beloved alligator, the family go into hiding in the swamps of rural Florida.

Again, it’s a silly episode, but if this list has done nothing else, it’s convince you that the show was very silly at this time, but still making good episodes. In addition, the ending scene features a beloved hallmark of the show: trolling the audience about what in what state the Simpsons actually reside. Good stuff.
