The Simpsons: All Of Bart's Love Interests, Ranked Worst To Best
1. Mary Spuckler
Mary Spuckler gets a bit of a raw deal compared to the most popular guest characters, without the Golden Age sheen. While she’s not on the level of the likes of Scorpio, she’s a brilliant character, possibly the best post-Season 10 addition to the show, and much funnier, well rounded and impactful than the better remembered stars of the show’s best years.
Voiced by Zooey Deschanel, Mary is truly the one who got away for Bart; not once, but twice. In both her guest appearances she forges a real connection with Bart, bringing him to a different place without reducing either one of them to a foil for gags the way Nikki or Gina do.
She just edges it over Jessica because there’s real feeling here, and if the show ever did lasting character development, Mary is easily Bart’s best match and could inspire him to be better.
Considering Deschanel’s success with both She & Him and New Girl, it’s no wonder Spuckler is able to easily carry musical numbers and brilliant comedic timing here. She’s already led two great episodes; here’s hoping if she’s back for a third Bart will finally be able to cling on to her.
