The Walking Dead: 10 Big Differences Between The Comics & TV Show

1. Rick Was Supposed To Lose An Arm...And Gains A Bit More

The Governor is another character who was noticeably altered in the course of translation. The despotic ruler of Woodbury was a cool, terrifying presence played by Brit David Morrissey on screen. In the comics he was Latino, with a slicked-by mullet and handlebar moustache, and his insanity was present from the off. As evidenced from Rick's first meeting with The Governor, which involved him getting his hand hacked off. Rick Grimes of the comics managed to deal with the pain and inconvenience of losing his shooting hand to fight another day, but had to stump for a...stump for the rest of his days. Apparently the makers of the television series had considered doing the same, but ultimately decided against adapt the plot point because it'd cost a lot in special effects. The fortunes of Rick Grimes went further downhill from there, including the death of his wife and newborn kid, his son getting shot in the eye and almost dying, and his son shot his best friend. The one shining light in his life is that, after losing Lori, he winds up hooking up with Andrea (if getting Dale's sloppy seconds can be considered good). At this point they've been together long enough that Carl calls her mom, and they don't look like they'll ever break up. At least until comic book Andrea goes the way of TV Andrea...
