The Walking Dead: 10 Mistakes That Must Be Learnt From In Season 6
3. Sticking With The Same Themes
To the naked eye, the focus of the show, the thread that runs through each season, has been the debasement of the human character. How far can a person sink under extreme stress while still retaining their humanity? The answer so far has been quite far, but not if you eat or rape people. Rick has murdered his best friend, killed a man with his teeth and left innocent men and women to die. But surely that's far enough? At some point there has to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps it's Alexandria, perhaps not. The main protagonists can't run forever, and there's only so much more they can do to shock audiences while still earning our sympathy. The end of Season 5 offered rare character growth, with Glenn and Rick (to an extent) both forgiving crimes they perhaps wouldn't have forgiven earlier in the show.
