Okay, so it's worth pointing out that Beta is clearly far from a great guy himself, especially when you consider the fact that he ends up posing a bigger threat to the communities than Alpha after her death.

But that doesn't mean that he was always that way. In the second episode of the tenth season, it's revealed how Alpha and Beta met, introducing the future brute as a violent outcast whose mind has massively deteriorated in the days following the apocalypse.

Traumatised and alone, Alpha sees in Beta the opportunity to pass on her survival techniques, allowing him to join her side with a mask she helps him fashion from the face of his deceased friend.

Beta may have been a wreck when Alpha found him, but he was far from the twisted and dangerously loyal killer she would soon make him. Whatever hope he had for redemption, Alpha snuffed it out, using his grief to make him a monster.
