The Walking Dead has a long history when it comes to creating strong villains that are both intimidating and detestable, but none of the show's many antagonists have been quite as horrifying as the Whisperer leader Alpha.

Played on the show by the brilliantly scary Samantha Morton, Alpha was introduced in the show's ninth season, and instantly struck a spine-tingling chord with fans due to her complete lack of morality, cold as ice voice, and deeply disturbing beliefs about how to survive in the new world.

Undeniably an irredeemable psychopath, Alpha wasted no time cementing herself as an all-time great series villain, pushing the boundaries of her twisted evilness with every passing episode and proving to be the Survivors' deadliest foe to date.

Having murdered, manipulated, abused and tortured her way through the series, there are countless horrid things Alpha did in her not-quite two-season stay on The Walking Dead.

These are the absolute worst, with major spoilers to follow.

10. Killing Her Husband

Nearing the end of season nine, The Walking Dead decides to slow the action down slightly by revealing Alpha's backstory, courtesy of her daughter Lydia's traumatic memories.

Although the episode relies heavily on its unreliable narrator, who makes it seem like her mother was made the way she is because of her abusive late husband, Lydia eventually reveals to Daryl that it was Alpha who was the controlling abuser, and that she actually murdered her husband because he was "weak."

It's a shock twist in an episode full of them, and instantly works to paint Alpha in an unpredictable and cruel light willing to do anything for her own twisted hopes of self-preservation.

After all, if someone is willing to kill their husband, and then let their companions die brutal deaths, what else are they capable of? In the case of Alpha, this was just the tip of the iceberg.
