The Walking Dead 5.3 Review - 5 Talking Points From "Four Walls And A Roof"

3. €œI Made You A Promise€

No one watching this episode expected Gareth and his crew to be dispatched so easily, and this early in the season. As we mentioned in the introduction, it felt like (and was teased in the previews) that this would be an extended conflict between the two groups, with Gareth playing the constant antagonist in much the same way as the Governor. Their break-in of the church felt sure to result in the taking of another member of the group, someone expendable, with our heroes arriving just a moment too late intervene. It was a bit disturbing to see a room full of grown men, including Nanny Tyreese, cower in corners while a 12-year old boy stood with gun at-the-ready to protect them. But it wasn€™t necessary, because we saw Rick and crew outsmart them, out-strategize them, and eulogize them before hacking them to death with machetes and rifle butts. Seeing the look of apprehension on Glenn€™s face after witnessing Maggie go Vorhees on one of the cannibals was a nice touch, as was Gabriel€™s revulsion at his place of worship being turned into a slaughterhouse. So that€™s it for Gareth and the Termites. Didn€™t think it would be that easy, and it was fun while it lasted. But now we€™re moving on to the next issue for our survivors. Let€™s discuss those next.
